According to the myths, she was changed into a bear by Zeus.


Either the developers thought a bear would be too boring and decided to give her a makeover, or an in-universe explanation was that people chose to call her a bear since she looked too alien for the human mind (and like H. P. Lovecraft’s stories, those who learned the truth went insane).
